Tax returns: How automated filing works

Posted on

In an update on the progress of the automated submission of tax returns for more than 1.4 million taxpayers, mainly employees and pensioners, AADE continued.

Remember that this year, for the first time, the Independent Public Revenue Authority continued to conduct these citizens:

  • make available for them a special file (pre-clearance) with the tax result (debit or credit) resulting from their declaration, filled by AADE with all the information it contains, and
  • giving them the option not to declare themselves if they believe that the filled information is correct and complete.

In particular, as pointed out, these taxpayers:

  • As long as they believe that the information is accurate and there are no other items that have not been filled in, they do not need to take any action to submit their return. AADE concluded this on Tuesday 2/7/2024.
  • If they want, they can submit their filled declaration earlier.
  • If the information is incomplete or inaccurate, these taxpayers must change and / or complete the correct information and submit their declaration, by the deadline for its submission, on 26/7/2024. In particular, until Monday 1/7/2024 they can submit the initial declaration, while from Tuesday 2/7 to Friday 26/7/2024 they can submit an amending declaration, without penalties (initial declaration pending).

To make it easier for these citizens, to check the accuracy of the information already filled in their declaration, from 21/6/2024 the pre-clearance file of the declaration is also immediately available in the AADE myAADEapp application.

To date, based on the data stored in the AADE systems of a total of 1,232,538 declarations (1,429,670 taxpayers), where their declaration has been pre-cleared, 852,500 taxpayers have submitted declarations.

In addition, as pointed out, taxpayers selected for the automatic return submission process of AADE, as well as those who submitted returns before the submission deadline, will be updated weekly by e-mail and in their inbox in myAADE and myAADEapp for changes in the data that AADE receives on their behalf from third parties (for example, employers, credit institutions), so that they can check if their tax liability has changed and take necessary actions.

So far, they have been announced:

  • 22,730 taxpayers whose details have changed after the initial pre-clearance have not yet submitted their own returns and need to check the results of the new pre-clearance.
  • 8,036 taxpayers who, due to new information that has arisen for them (for example, the change of tax residence or marital status, submit changes to the return for 2022, which affects the pre -clearance for 2023, etc.), must now submit their return.

At the same time, the notification of taxpayers, for whom the latest information was sent to AADE, after submitting their declaration, was launched, to check the correctness of the new information and to make a change -or declaration or any other required action. .
