The “war” broke out between accountants and tax experts with the Ministry of National Economy and the Independent Public Revenue Authority with a focus on tax returns.
Currently, if the tax administration maintains that the rate of submission of declarations is satisfactory, despite any individual issues, which, however, as highlighted, can be resolved, tax experts insist that the errors, the delays recorded in the process of The submission of tax declarations and especially in the filled declarations, it is impossible to complete the entire process in time on July 26.
Extension for tax returns
The Accounting Association of Athens, highlighting the risk of “intolerable fines for already burdened businesses” from not meeting the deadlines for submitting declarations, invites all involved, across the country, on Thursday 07/18/2024 at 6:00 pm: 00 in an online event to coordinate “joint action”.
According to accountants’ estimates, about 6 out of 10 filled declarations require the submission of changes, while the Greek Chamber of Commerce points to the new system of automatic submission of pre-filled declarations of salary-pensioners, most taxpayers in this category will be led to submit amended declarations, due to incorrect data or non-posting by public organizations of retroactive or financial assistance certificates .
Also, the President of the Hellenic Chamber of Commerce, Konstantinos Kollias, requested, in a letter to the Ministry of Finance and the AADE, the postponement of the deadline for the submission of tax returns until the end of September 2024.
For its part, the Ministry of Finance talked about the high rate of submission of tax returns compared to last year, estimating that the process could be completed on July 26, 2024, when the deadline expires according to schedule.
The head of AADE, Giorgos Pitsilis in his recent statements argued that there is no plan to extend the deadline for submitting tax returns, stressing that so far the returns submitted are close to 5 million and has a submission rate of 130,000 returns per day, “the numbers are out.”
The problems
Only 83, or 0.05% of all those caught in the pinch of imputed income, have submitted an application to challenge the tax by accepting a tax audit.
