The music school No. 1 named after. Ippolitov-Ivanov was disbanded at Kostroma. The parents of the students reported this, the Novosti44 correspondent reports.

Classes at the educational institution were suspended on November 5. It was later learned that on October 31, 2024, the director of the school, Svetlana Suvorova, together with a deputy and a guard, inspected the school and found “a minor sagging plaster” and cracks in two classrooms. Based on this document, lessons were stopped at the school. The school inspection report is now available to the editors. It is surprising that there is no official statement about the reason for the closure of the school on the website or social networks of the institution.

Currently, there are 500 children attending the educational institution and 60 teachers teaching. They are now organizing lessons online. In the future, the children may be transferred to other music schools or given a different building.

We remind you that this music school has been operating in Kostroma since the 18th century. It is located in an architectural monument of the 19th century – the Tretyakov merchant’s profit rooms, located in the center of Kostroma since 1963.

Previously, the Kostroma Regional Music College was based in the same architectural monument. In 2018, the Department of Culture reported the emergency situation of the building in 2022, the college moved to a building in the Yubileiny micro district. Officials promised to start developing restoration documents immediately after the college moved and expected the allocation of 600 million rubles for its restoration. To date, officials have not provided the public with specific plans for the restoration of the cultural heritage site.
