Only 5 days left to close taxisnet for this year’s 2024 tax returns.
The accountants are still pushing for an extension arguing that numerous errors even in the already filled returns make it difficult to complete the process by July 26.
The ministry has so far not opened its papers even for a short extension of the deadline to submit declarations. Referring to the issue of tax declarations, the Minister of National Economy and Finance, Kostis Hatzidakis, in an interview with NEA, announced that from next year the goal is for tax declarations to begin in March and end in June.
Tax returns
The “hourglass” for filing returns has ended, as have taxpayers who have yet to submit their paperwork.
About 1,200,000 statements remain to date. This year, the tax refund will be made immediately, with a deadline for submitting declarations on July 26.
To meet the submission deadline, 200,000 returns must be submitted each day.
“This is a number that has never happened before. It is difficult,” said accountant Nikos Fragiadakis, who spoke to MEGA.
“The point is that this year the situation has become more complicated because there are so-called automated declarations, the ones that have already been filled, where more than half of them require changes.According to accountants, there is always a need to submit amended returns as:
- The new salary certificates are sent to the agencies
- Errors are discovered in automatic statements
- Important issues like claw back remain pending
“On the one hand, we have completed ones that often require changes and this surprises the tax professional. Second, there are agencies that renew salary certificates up to 10 days ago. It requires time from the overall process.”
“I do not understand why the ministry is forcing such a territorial and short time in the process of submitting the tax return,” he concluded.
The fines
Without an extension, those taxpayers who do not submit their tax return by Friday will face a fine of up to 500 euros:
- 100 euros, regardless of the result of the liquidation, ie if it is zero, credit or debit of overdue declarations of natural persons. If the declaration is debited, a penalty of 0.73% will be imposed for each month of delay from the last date of tax payment.
- 100 euros in overdue initial declarations of individuals and legal entities that keep aplographic books, which are credit or zero and 250 euros in debit initial declarations.
- A fine of 500 euros is imposed on overdue initial declarations of individuals and legal entities that keep double-entry books, which are credit or zero and 500 euros on debit initial declarations.
